KraftPerch
Explore paper prototyping, rapid iteration, and structural problem-solving while working with a flexible and unpredictable material. The project emphasizes learning how to refine form and strength through repeated testing of folds, tabs, and corrugated structures.
Ideation
Explored problems that could be solved using corrugated board’s foldability and structural strength. Focused on simple forms that leverage folds and slots for stability.
Refinement
Further exploring the two directions chosen (cat food perch and coaster) and working out exact tab and fold placement.
Prototyping
Making physical paper prototypes of forms explored in previous steps to flesh out potential assembly issues and stability.
Further Prototyping
Making more prototypes with spare corrugated board on hand to see how the material behaves when cut and scored in the design.
Dialing in the Fine Details
Moving onto laser cut samples from the final intended material, working out exact measurements, and presenting samples to the client.
Final Product
The final design where a small cat bowl can be raised at an angle for a cat to eat their food.
